They work well for me. My refunds are quick, and I've never had a mistake appear thanks to their pre-filing verification work. Their service is open to all JavaScript-capable browsers and platforms. While I'd love to use it via Emacs, well, I can understand the JS decision.

They have my tax records going back to 2004. All still are accessible, and all those I've paid to re-access still are ready to print. My taxes aren't terribly complicated, so the cheap plans (relative to my refunds) work well. They've been growing their toolset since my first encounter. The downside is that not everything is available right now (the medical deduction tracker would be useful), but I like their business model.

When I first started using TaxSlayer, it was quite bare-bones. They've grown as their business has grown rather than trying to tackle everything at once. Very well done, and it gives me some faith that they'll exist far into the future. As a bonus, they're kinda sorta local-ish now. I'll overlook their street address and nearby reservoir name; it's not necessarily their fault. And they have good free filing plans for low-income and military users.

Our partial-year split residence prevented our e-filing for that state last year, but that's not TaxSlayer's fault. I could have ducked out of that state's fee and *still* used TaxSlayer's work just by cutting and pasting to the Virginia form. The fee, however, lets me save that information…

I am caffeinated. Our dogs are exhausted. That's pretty much all that needs said… ParkGrounds is far more convenient for us than Piedmont Park. I agree that some of the dogs seem not to have supervision, but I've run into that at every park. We'll see if it becomes more of a problem for us here.

They were out of their main beans and had to scramble to put together a cup, but that's secondary. I see this place as a dog park first and coffee shop second. The inside felt nice for the minute or so I was inside. I was too busy trying to scoot through the patio fence without doggie accompaniment to notice much of the patio.

First reading

Ok, I went to my first official poetry reading today, just as an observer. I’m still processing it.

The Poetry@Tech series is based in the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum. Somehow they manage to serve wine on campus. I’m guessing the museum’s guard upstairs serves as the required police officer on duty.

Joel Brouwer’s reading was a good introduction. He seems a bit fixed on Lions. I need to think more about his work. Chad Davidson seems to be a natural showman. His introductory patter and initial poetry softened us up as an audience for harder imagery. The third poet struck me the wrong way. I’ll leave it at that.

One common strand through all the poets were their concrete imagery. It’s something I can’t seem to shake, so hearing others’ uses was interesting.

Long overdue review. We took our little baby girl Spike for her snip back in November. The staff was nice and very efficient. Naturally, I waited to review to see if any problems occurred… Nope. The stitching did take a very long time to dissolve, but it finally went away. The little tattoo is the only mark remaining. Spike's a happy, bouncy, sweet, and healthy girl.

During my *short* wait in their office, I saw quite a few captured strays dropped off. They were handled with as much care as our girl, although with appropriate precautions.
